Main Street at 2nd Avenue

Sidewalks are available throughout downtown, but not always on both sides of the road. Lack of curb ramps make it difficult for people with disabilities to cross the road. Lack of crosswalks reduce the visibility of pedestrians crossing the road.

School Drop-Off

School circulation is a major component of this study. Because the Middle School and High School are located within the same complex, many elementary school students are dropped off at nearby parking lots. Children need safe access between the schools and these drop-off areas.

Mobility refers to the ease and efficiency with which people can move around and access different places within the town. It includes all the ways people travel, whether by walking, cycling, driving, or other means.

Good mobility means that it is safe and efficient for everyone to get to where they need to go. Improving mobility often involves making streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists and reducing traffic congestion. This helps to move around the town more smoothly and makes getting places more accessible for everyone.

The Town of Oneida was awarded a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to study transportation alternatives that will improve overall mobility, connectivity, and safety for the broad range of uses downtown – including local businesses, residences, schools, churches, and a senior center. The study will evaluate the need for parking, walkways, and bike paths to better serve the area.

The project team and the Town of Oneida need input from community members on your experiences, your concerns, and what improvements you would like to see Downtown. There will be several options to provide input, including the online survey provided here and two public meetings. Public Meeting #1 is scheduled for June 25th @ 5:00 PM at City Hall.
